TEACHING THE JOY OF MOVEMENT TO THE VERY YOUNG
We believe that movement brings joy, and that all children have original and imaginative ways of expressing themselves. Children are naturally active, and dance is a powerful learning tool to channel their energy, as it teaches them to listen, think and focus.

HOW TO PREPARE
Talk about the upcoming dance class with your child and the importance of listening to and watching 'Miss Jay' and that "Miss Jay is your dance teacher, she will help you dance". Other tips for this conversation are: "Mummy (or name of caregiver) will sit on the chair to watch you dance, you are a wonderful dancer!" On the day your child may not feel like dancing and this is completely acceptable. Jay will do her best to encourage active participation.
Bring a water bottle for your child to stay hydrated and a snack for after class.
Parents are welcome to watch the class but please do not participate as this can cause confusion among the students as to who is the teacher. Why not have a coffee at the café next door or enjoy your coffee while you watch your little one?
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Jay Barker, Founder and Principal, was inspired to teach dance again after experiencing the happiness of dancing with her first child.
Jay began to learn ballet, contemporary and jazz at age 4 in the mining town of Leinster, where her mother started a dance studio.
When her family moved to Perth, Jay became a student of the Terri Charlesworth Ballet School, the Contemporary Dance Centre (Ruth Osborne, a leading dance choreographer and mentor), and more recently Get Moving and Danceworx under the direction of Wendy Wesson (of Yogaworx).
Jay is a dedicated, high energy teacher.
